Artificial Teeth That Restore Healthy Smiles to Happy Faces

by - February 23, 2018

A general dentist performs basic oral care that includes cleaning and toothache treatments. A specialist known as a prosthodontist is suitable for teeth replacement who first diagnoses and analyses the patient's condition before prescribing dentures. Complex disorders require advanced care to restore happiness and health. The following guidelines and instructions are useful for potential patients with tooth related issues -

1.  Tell Tale Signs

  • Gum Trouble - A dentist visit every 6 months is a safe bet for people of all age groups. Gum related symptoms include redness, swollenness, tenderness, and blood. The patient must visit a dentist for regular infection or gingivitis check-up. Periodontal problems may lead to bone and tooth less if neglected for too long.
  • Disorderly Teeth - Tooth loosening, displacement, and visible gaps are a cause for concern. Experts prescribe implants if the severity of a case requires teeth extraction.
  • Pain - Severe to ordinary pain inside the mouth can be due to tooth decay. The surgeons prescribe fillings, but invasive options include tooth removal and partial dentures.
  • Missing Teeth - Prosthetic replacements are necessary as they help chew and grind up the food. Patients usually ignore if they miss a few teeth at the back, but this decision is counterproductive.
  • Hard to Chew - Cavities, gum infection, chipped or cracked tooth can make it hard to chew food. Root canals and cavity fillings are early solutions, but if neglected, it can lead to severe repercussions in the future.
2.  Types of Implants
Artificial replacements can only be suggested by a specialized dentist. Have a look at some of the denture implants options suggested –

  • Partial Dentures - They effectively replace some but not all the teeth at the top or bottom. They are attached to the existing ones and cover the adjacent gums and bone.
  • Complete Set - They replace all the teeth and rest on the gums that cover the jawbones.
  • Permanent Replacements- These dentures are permanent in the sense that only the specialist is eligible to remove or repair them.
  • Subperiosteal Implants - A method in which bone grafting is eliminated by mounting a metal framework on the jawbone. A set of implants are then attached to this platform which lies underneath the gums.
  • Endosteal Implants - The biocompatible, titanium screw goes directly into the bone. This procedure is accompanied by bone grafting to ensure a firm connection with the jaw. They come in two different sizes and can be chosen as per the size and shape of gums of any individual –
  • Standard - The standard screw shaped implant is the best choice.
  • Narrow or
  •  Mini - A mini version which has a much thinner screw.

3.  Tips for Careful Usage
Even the best quality replacement teeth require adequate care and maintenance. The patient is given a list of post implantation guidelines by the dentist –

  • Brushing - The patients should ensure that they never brush the dentures by accident or intention. Instead, these implants must be washed with dish cleaning liquid. The plastic material can also be gently brushed afterwards with a special and soft brush.
  • Whitening - Even the artificial teeth develop plaque bacteria and food gets stuck in them as well. The dental experts suggest gentle scrubs on the inside and outside to prevent staining. Existing stains can be treated with general cleansers, but bleaching must be avoided.
  • Repairs - A patient with dentures must schedule timely visits to the periodontist. The specialists inspect these implants for stains, cracks, loosening, or dislocation. The minor problems are corrected, but replacements may be suggested. A new set of artificial teeth becomes necessary if the previous set becomes tool.
