Nowadays people are much fond of the style, luxury and comfort along with this furniture upholstery are much in demand. This type of furniture comes with foam cushions which are enclosed in leather or fabric. The furniture is usually a wooden or steel frame and on its top springs is attached before the arrangement of the cushions. Different kinds of upholstered furniture are available such as single sofas, living room chairs, double seater or triple seater sofas, dining room chairs, couches, etc. 

Different Types of Upholstery Fabric

There are different types of furniture upholstery fabrics available in the market that comes in a range of colors, fibers, weights, and treatments. Hence, before purchasing new furniture you must know which upholstery is good and what you must consider in terms of durability, style, and comfort. There are two types of upholstery available natural and synthetic upholstery fabrics. 

Natural Furniture Upholstery Fabrics Come from Natural Fibers That Is from Animals and Plants. They Are: 

#1. Chenille: this type of fabric is used for homes they are more or less like velvet. They are very comfortable and can be used for sofas, children furniture and recliners, etc.

#2. Cotton: this fabric is a combination of stylish nylon and breathable and comfortable natural fiber with linen, polyester, etc. They are also very affordable.

#3. Jute: they are mainly used formatting and rope. This is a grand fabric rustic accent pieces such as ottoman, which adds a rough texture that matches up well with leather and wood.

#4. Leather: these can be available in different varieties, depending upon which the upholstery can vary greatly in quality and price and also on its treatment and grade. They are full grain leather, top-grain leather, corrected grain leather and split leather.

#5. Wool: woolen furniture upholstery fabric comes from animal hair and is the most durable one. Nowadays most of the wool used on sofas is a blend of synthetic and natural fabric.

#6. Silk: it is very soft and comfortable which feels perfect for the home. Silk at times backed with cotton adds durability and weight.
#7. Linen: Linen is made from flax and is very sturdy natural textile fiber as well.

#8. Velvet: the velvet material is usually very soft and shiny fabric made from synthetic and natural fibers and comes in a variety of quality.

#8. Synthetic furniture upholstery fabric is much more durable than natural fabrics.

#9. Faux Leather: they are made up of polyurethane. They are more degradable and more breathable than PVC.

#10. Rayon: it is a cellulose-based material that is made to copy fabrics like linen and cotton. They are blended with other types of threads to produce a mixed type of material.

#11. Polyester: a great synthetic fabric that works well with cotton and wool. They are very sturdy and durable, wrinkly, easy to clean, etc.

#12. Microfiber: you can knit this mixed polyester fabric that is soft and easy to clean.

#13. Nylon: they are high abrasion resistance, durable and easy to clean. This type of fabric easily mixes with other materials to make a sturdy and durable material. They are tending to wrinkle and easy to clean.

#14. Olefin: these can be obtained by melting of the plastic pellet. They are very easy to clean, colorfast, durable and great for heavy use upholstery.

Types of Craftsmanship Required to Upholster Furniture

Cutting, trimming and sewing in furniture upholstery needs high-quality craftsmanship and labor. This artwork is mostly dependent on the proper fitting and finishing of the covering. A badly handle fabric which does not have a proper shape or size can totally spoil the look of the furniture. Therefore, the upholsterer must be well skilled and aware of the fabric material they are working with to give a perfect design and cut to the fabric that is using as a covering for any furniture piece.
